With March 6 as the cutoff date to file for candidacy in the May 15 primary election, the Blair County Director of Elections has released the list of individuals who have filed for candidacy for various public offices.
Tyrone Borough Council has four seats open in this election. Council members Jennifer Bryan and Stephen Hanzir have filed for candidacy and will be running for re-election while Don Boytim and Bill Fink have decided not to seek another term on Tyrone Borough Council.
Both of the other candidates running for Borough Council are no strangers to Tyrone Borough government. They include former Mayor Patricia Stoner and former council member Mark Kosoglow.
Bryan and Stoner will appear on the democratic primary ballot. Hanzir and Kosoglow will appear on the republican primary ballot.
Bellwood Borough Council is in somewhat of a dilemma. There are four members of Bellwood Borough Council who have terms expiring this year including Christopher Creek, Eileen Newberry, Stephen Palovich and Don Walker None filed papers by the March 6 deadline. Nobody else filed for candidacy for a seat on Bellwood Borough Council.
Both Tyrone Area and Bellwood-Antis School Boards have members with terms expiring this year.
The Tyrone Area School Board has five board members with terms expiring. Board members Raymond Detwiler, Peter Dutrow, Rev. Norman Huff, Luther Laird, along with Board President Lee Stover have terms expiring this year and have all filed to run for re-election. Joining them on the ballot will be one newcomer, Keith Beisel. Beisel will appear in the republican primary ballot. Detwiler, Dutrow, Huff, Laird, and Stover will appear on both the democratic and republican primary ballots.
The Bellwood-Antis School Board also has five members with terms expiring. Board members Rhonda Hocutt, Kenneth Loucks, Jeff Plummer, David Worthing, along with Board President Donna Tyler have terms expiring this year and have all filed to run for re-election. Joining them on the ballot will be newcomer James Otto. All candidates for Bellwood-Antis School Board will appear both the democratic and republican primary ballots.
There is one seat open on the Snyder Township Board of Supervisors. This is due to the resignation of supervisor Buddy Daughenbaugh. On the ballot for Snyder Township will be former supervisor Ray Rodgers, Robert Nelson and Bernie Sherwin. Sherwin was appointed Township Supervisor after Daughenbaugh’s resignation and is now running for his own term. Nelson and Sherwin will appear on the republican primary ballot and Rodgers will appear on the democratic primary ballot.
Three seats are open on the Antis Township Board of Supervisors. Township Supervisor Robert Hornberger, Sr. and Vice Chairman Charles Taylor have both filed to run for re-election. Supervisor Kenneth Hostler, who was appointed to the board in November 2005 to complete the term of the late Dr. Robert Walker, has filed to run for his own term as township supervisor.
Joining the three current supervisors on the ballot will be former supervisor Ron Gensamer who is looking to return board.
All four candidates will appear on the republican primary ballot.
There is a long list of candidates for Blair County Commissioner.
Current County Commissioners Donna Gority and Barry Wright have both filed to run for re-election.
Joining Gority on the democratic ballot will be Rodney Bohner of Altoona, Joann Nardelli of Newry, and Rich Thomas of Roaring Spring.
Joining Wright on the republican ballot will be James Baldwin of Altoona, current Tyrone Borough Council member Bill Fink, former Hollidaysburg Borough Manager Diane Meling of Altoona, Thomas Morgan of Altoona, Assistant District Attorney Terry Tomassetti of Altoona and Bobbi Ellenberger Yoder of Duncansville.
The two candidates in each party with the greatest number of votes will appear on the ballot for County Commissioner in the November general election.
