This month’s Lunch-N-Learn is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Burley’s Restaurant.
The topic will be “Information Systems Security for Small and Medium-sized Organizations”, presented by Jungwoo Ryoo.
Ryoo is an Assistant Professor in Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State Altoona. His main research interests include information assurance and security, software engineering, and networking.
More specifically, he is interested in software security, network/cyber security, security management particularly in small and medium-sized organizations, software architecture, Architecture Description Languages (ADLs), object-oriented software development, formal methods, and requirements engineering.
He has a significant industry experience (Sprint and IBM) in architecting and implementing secure, high-performance software for large-scale network management systems.
He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Kansas in 2005.
Ryoo will discuss a number of cost-effective ways to implement information systems security safeguards geared toward small and medium-sized organizations. Other discussion will revolve around potential security threats, cost effective knowledge and skills, intrusion detection and prevention, how build a secure computer network, recognizing security threats and the configuration of firewalls.
Information provided for the Lunch-N-Learn reads, “We live in an age where computer systems play a pivotal role in productivity and security within all businesses and organizations. Additional education and training is one way to remain competitive and secure
“The Demand for information systems security is greater than ever. Regardless of your size, any organization using computers must be aware of potential security threats and take proper actions.”
It promises to help individuals “gain the knowledge and skills necessary to cost-effectively build a secure computer network. You can learn how to identify and resolve potential security problems before they become serious and costly.”
This month’s Business After Hours will be held at the Northern Blair County Recreation Center on Thursday, March 22 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Northern Blair Rec Center is a place where families can come together and enjoy each others company, talents and interests.
It is the hope of volunteers and staff that this can be a place where residents become neighbors through non-profit activities such as food drives and community initiatives.
NBCRC is centrally located in Tipton on Old Route 220 above DelGrosso Amusement Park serving the 20,000 residents of Northern Blair County.
Upon arrival guests can visit the newly constructed facilities including the fitness center, weight room, baseball fields, women’s softball fields, soccer fields, all-purpose rooms or gymnasium housing basketball courts.
Phase three of the building project will include the addition of pavilions, walking trails, nature trails, bike trails, an outside basketball court and an all-purpose field.
Anyone with questions or to make a reservation, call the Chamber office at 684-0736 or send an email to rose@tyronechamber.com.
