Dave Woleslagle is a Scoutmaster’s dream. Dave is an EMT, a Paramedic, and is employed at the Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg. He is also on the ambulance crew in Hollidaysburg. Dave brings to Troop 300 a level of knowledge of first aid, citizenship, military discipline and a jovial disposition that makes him one of the most popular assistant Scoutmasters. The Scouts were most upset when Dave got word that he was being deployed to the Middle East in January.
What Dave needed first and foremost was knowing that Troop 300 was in full support of his efforts. At the last meeting Dave could attend, Father Orr gave a special blessing for Dave’s protection as he carried out his duties. Errin Bruner, Troop chaplain promised that he would keep Dave, in the weekly closing prayer, as well as all of the soldiers serving in Iraq. The boys decided it would be most appropriate to assemble care packages, and send them to Mr. Woleslagle’s unit.
Mrs. Kim Wilson, a Girl Scout leader, heard of Troop 300’s mission and involved her Girl Scout groups, Brownie Troop 1231 and Junior Troop 1220. They collected a huge box of items, and assembled “survival packs” for the soldiers. Recently, the Boy Scouts of Troop 300 assembled 7 care packages from the donations from the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. The troop will be shipping about two packages every 10 days so that Mr. Woleslagle can pass out the goodies to his fellow soldiers.
Once again, the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts have worked together to“ Do a Good Turn Daily”, this good turn will benefit the dedicated soldiers half way around the world. Everyone thinks of the soldiers often, but it becomes ever so personal when one of them is “Sean’s Dad”, one of the troop’s favorite leaders.
