At 10:30 a.m. worship this Sunday, April 15, the 82 members of Tyrone Presbyterian Church will host Cub Scout Pack 300 from Saint Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church.
Led by Scout Leader Mark Raffetto, the Cub Scouts, their Leaders, and their Parents will attend Presbyterian Services this Sunday to express their gratitude to Tyrone Presbyterians for allowing them to use their Christian Education Rooms and Fellowship Hall for Monday Evening Scout Meetings, Competitions, and Banquets, while The Saint Matthew’s Building underwent extensive renovations, during the past nine months.
Chaperoning the Cub Scouts to this Service will be Associate Leaders Theresa Harper, Cyndy Isenberg, Larry Kobuck, Larry McKernan, Andrew Murtaugh and Albert Wilson. The Scouts in Saint Matthew’s Cub Pack 300 will open the service with A Processional March and Flag Pledge, accompanied by The Patriotic Hymn entitled The Battle Hymn Of The Republic.
Margaret (Peg) McNitt, who serves as Clerk Of The Presbyterian Session, will represent Church Members as she accepts The Token Of Appreciation from The Cub Scouts. Pastor Norman Huff will lead Worship and deliver The Message on this Cub Scout Sunday. In part, Pastor Huff’s Message will ponder The Boy Scout and Cub Scout Mottos of Do Your Best and Be Prepared.
Sunday, April 15 will be Pastor Huff’s Final Sunday in The Tyrone Presbyterian Pulpit as Interim Minister, since he has previous Interim Minister Commitments to fulfill at Lower Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church. Starting on April 22, Epworth Manor Chaplain Mark Liller of The Church Of The Brethren Denomination, will take over The Preaching Duties at Tyrone Presbyterian Church.
The Choir, Congregational, and Organ Music of this Cub Scout Worship Service will center around The Cub Scout Oath: I promise to do My Best / To do My Duty, to God, and My Country / To help other people at all times / And to obey The Law Of The Pack. The Westminster Choir will echo this Scout Oath when they sing The Howard Grose Anthem Give Of Your Best To The Master / Give Of The Strength Of Your Youth / Dressed In Salvation’s Full Armor / Join In The Battle For Truth.
Following Pastor Huff’s Message, The Congregation will sing Howard Walter’s 1905 Hymn entitled MY CREED — I Would Be True, For There Are Those Who Trust Me / I Would Be Pure, For There Are Those Who Care / I Would Be Strong, For There Is Much To Suffer / I Would Be Brave, For There Is Much To Dare.
As a Young Pastor, Howard Walter spent his Life in India teaching and ministering to Muslim Students. Tragically, he died in the 1918 Influenza Epidemic that engulfed The World.
Church organist Richard Merryman will close this Spring Service with A Salute To The Scouts, recalling The Theme Song from The 1969 Movie Good-Bye, Mr. Chips. Composed by John Williams, this Theme Song clearly embodies some of the most noble goals of Scouting — In The Morning Of My Life, I Will Look To The Sunrise / At That Moment In My Life When The Day Is New / And The Blessing I Will Ask Is That God Will Grant Me / To Be Brave, And Pure, And True / And To Fill The World With Love My Whole Life Through!
As 82 Tyrone Presbyterians celebrate their 150th Anniversary in 2007, they consider it highly appropriate to welcome The Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of Saint Matthews Troop 300 into their building for weekly meetings. Not surprisingly, when the present Greystone Gothic Building was erected in 1927, The Architect and Contractor Martin Orr Of Ohio carefully included both Girl Scout and Boy Scout Meeting Rooms in The Presbyterian Church, fully equipped with a Separate Restroom and an Outside Entrance from Logan Avenue. In those long ago days, Tyrone Presbyterians envisioned corners of their New 1927 House Of Worship for Community Service to Scouts.
Thus at 10:30 this Sunday, April 15, as Cub Scout Troop 300 offers their thanks to local Presbyterians, church members also will offer their gratitude to those Loyal Scouts who in this 150th Anniversary Year have allowed The People Of The Church to recall Presbyterian’s long-term commitment to The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of this Community.
