There is one week to go until the sixth annual Tyrone-Snyder Township Public Library Concert will be kicking off at the Tyrone Area High School auditorium.
“My goodness, that was the quickest 358 days I have seen in a long time,” laughed concert organizer and chairman Chuck Banas.
The library will kick off their sixth annual concert next Saturday evening, April 21 at the Tyrone Area High School auditorium. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m. sharp.
“We really want everyone to know that the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. this year and not earlier as we are really busily preparing for the final preparations for the show clear up to that time,” commented Banas. “I know last year we had many people there at 6 p.m. and we are going to try to give our technical people the time they need to put in the final settings for sound and lighting. The absolute last thing that we want to have happen is for someone to slip and fall or stumble over a cable before they have been finally secured into the proper position,” said Banas.
All seating is reserved seating so there will be plenty of time to get to your seat before the 7 p.m. start time.
Banas remarked, “Hopefully, it will finally become spring and we will have a beautiful evening and people can stand outside if they like and socialize if they arrive prior to the 6:30 p.m. time.”
The concert also has some activities and fun that go on in addition to the star-studded line up that will be appearing.
“I like to see it as a big block party,” said Banas. “Every year will tell people that if they feel like dancing, get up and dance. Just have fun, and they do. People are dancing and singing along and having just a great time. You can get away from all the pressure and problems of the everyday world for two hours and just relax and have a great evening.”
This year, a couple of the added attractions will be the raffles that will be available for all of those in attendance.
“We have two area businesses that have been very supportive to us, Positively Heaven Quilt Shop and Tea Merchant 101,” said Banas.
“The quilt that we are going to be raffling off the night of the concert has been donated to us by Positively Heaven Quilt Shop. It is just beautiful and is currently on display in the library downtown. All of the proceeds from the quilt raffle will go towards the summer reading program for the children of the area. Someone will be leaving that night with a very beautiful quilt,” said Banas.
“Tea Merchant 101 has also been very good to the library. Joe Doyle is such a great person to work with. His establishment is located in the Olde Office Centre in Duncansville and is one of the neatest places you can visit. Joe has donated another tea and spice basket for us this year. There will be another happy person who will be leaving our show Saturday night with a great basket and a wide arrangement of specialty teas. If you want to talk tea and sit in a neat environment and be treated just like family, then you have to pay Joe a visit,” offered Banas.
There will be a special table set up in the lobby of the high school auditorium Saturday evening prior to the concert. This table will have raffle tickets available to try your luck at winning the quilt or the basket of tea or spices or maybe even both. At this table, you may also have a chance on winning a special prize that you will need to be there in order to find out exactly what that prize is all about.
Tickets for the concert are still available at the following ticket outlets in downtown Tyrone: Bressler’s Food Mart and Sports, Kopp Drug and the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library. Tickets may also be purchased by telephone by calling a special ticket order line at 682-1017. If ordering tickets through the mail you should plan to allow at least four days to receive your tickets. Ticket outlets will have tickets available until noon on Saturday, April 21. After this time, the tickets will be available only at the ticket window in the high school auditorium from 6:30 p.m. up until show time on next Saturday evening, April 21.
This year’s line up will include The JiveBombers, Sarah Wilson, Vanessa Campagna, Barry St. Ives and from Los Angeles, California, Cornell Gunter’s The Coasters. All monies raised by the concert will go toward paying the mortgage on the new library in downtown Tyrone.
