(Editor’s note: Recently, The Daily Herald sent out letters to individuals listed in our coverage area who have filed for candidacy in the May 15 primary election. Individuals were asked to send back the information so that the Herald could spotlight each candidate to the public. Peter L. Dutrow, a veteran member of the Tyrone Area School Board, is seeking another four year term on the board.
Dutrow has served on the board for six years.
Dutrow served as a teacher at the Tyrone Area High School for 35 years. During that period, he also served as Athletic Director for 15 years and two terms as an Interim Assistant Principal. He also coached wrestling, football, cross country as well as serving as an advisor to various committees and clubs within the Tyrone Area School District.
“I am very interested in continuing to serve the Tyrone School District as a School Board Member,” Dutrow said. “I feel my relationships with the entire spectrum of the people responsible for the smooth running of our schools will help me to be beneficial to the education of our young people.”
He serves as a member of the Physical Plant and Operations Committee, Public and Student Relations Committee, Student Activities and Services Committee and Chairman of the Educational Programs and Materials Committee. He has also served as the Pennsylvania School Board Association representative of the board.
He had previously served as a member of Tyrone Borough Council for four years.
Dutrow is an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. He is also past President of the Tyrone Kiwanis Club and a former Vice President of the Tyrone YMCA Board of Directors. He is also a member of the Tyrone Elks and served for many years as Chairman of the Youth Activities Committee.
“My goal is to provide the best affordable education for our children,” Dutrow said. “I have the experience, the knowledge and I am committed to make a difference in the Tyrone Area School District.”
