Barry Wright, one of the three current Blair County Commissioners, is vying for another four year term in office.
Wright said that during his campaign for County Commissioner, he pledged to be a full time Commissioner for the citizens of Blair County and felt he has kept that promise. He explained that he has promised not to take a salary increase during his term in office and has kept this promise. In August 2006, Wright voted against any salary increases for county elected officials for the term of 2008-2011. Wright said this will save the county approximately $200,000.
According to Wright, he has also promised to enhance security at the Blair County Courthouse, a project he said is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
Prior to being elected county commissioner in 2003, Wright served on the Altoona Area School Board from 1996 to 2003. He also has 39 years of banking experience.
“I am the incumbent, and I have the experience the office requires,” Wright said. “I have additional goals to accomplish, which will benefit the citizens of Blair County. If re-elected, I promise to continue to be effective, efficient, responsive and accountable to the citizens of Blair County.”
Wright will be running on the Republican ballot.
