The Tyrone girls softball team was limited to one hit by Lady Ram Rachel Myers in a 16-0 five inning mercy-rule decision by Penns Valley.
Lindsay Christine, who was filling in for Kimberly Cherry at catcher, instead of her regular position at first base because Cherry was at the Future Business Leaders of America Convention, broke up the no-hit bid with a single in the bottom of the fifth, in the contest played on Hilltop field at the Harry K. Sickler Athletic Complex..
“We are beating ourselves. We had a couple of crucial errors that led to runs for Penns Valley,” said Tyrone softball coach Lois Loncher.
Megan Turiano walked eight and had no strikeouts for the Lady Eagles, who didn’t give her much help in the field, committing six errors.
Amanda Gordon had three hits, including a triple, and three RBI for Penns Valley, Toot McCool had a pair of hits and two RBI and Pam Heinrichs, who tossed a one-hitter against the Lady Eagles, in the first meeting of the season between the two schools, had a double and three RBI.
Tyrone (1-13) will host Huntingdon on Friday, at 4:30 p.m., and travel to Altoona on Saturday morning for a 10 a.m. start.
