The two Tyrone VFW 13/14 Year-old Teener League teams opened their regular season on Saturday evening at Ferner Field. There are 35 young men from the Tyrone Area who are part of this age category this year.
There are a total of 13 teams in the league including teams from Tyrone, Altoona, Bellwood, Hollidaysburg, and State College. The two teams from Tyrone include the Kiwanis and Sprankle\’s Automotive.
Kiwanis 8 Sprankles’s Auto 0
The Kiwanis team came out on top of the Sprankle\’s Automotive team on Saturday evening by a score of 8-0. Offensively, the Kiwanis team was led by JD Dorminy and Jeremy Miller who each had two hits a piece and several RBI\’s. Three other hitters including Marcus Wagner, A.J. Welsh, and John Kimberling recorded doubles. Jordan Faretta had two hits for Sprankle\’s. The Kiwanis scoring included four runs in the second inning, two in the third, and then one insurance run each in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Other Kiwanis players with RBI\’s included Marcus Wagner, A.J. Welsh, John Kimberling, Jeff Rawson, and Derrick Dasher.
Korry Cowher picked up the victory for the Kiwanis team going six innings, allowed only four hits and recorded six strike-outs.
Jared Templeton took the loss for Sprankle\’s Automotive.
Sprankle\’s was scheduled to play again on May 2 at Ferner. No information was turned in concerning the outcome of that ballgame.

Kiwanis 17 Maple Hollow Auto Body 5
The Tyrone Kiwanis team squared off against a Hollidaysburg team known as Maple Hollow Auto Body on Monday evening at Ferner Field in 13 / 14 Year-old VFW Teener League action.
The Kiwanis team came away with its second victory in as many starts by defeating Maple Hollow Auto Body by a score of 17-5 in 4 & 1/2 innings.
Offensively, the team pounded out nine timely hits and took advantage of eight walks /hit by pitches on route to plating its 17 runs.
J.D. Dorminy led the offensive charge going 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBI\’s. A.J. Welsh, James Russell, and Kirby Lawrence also recorded doubles. The Kiwanis leadoff hitter, Marcus Wagner was hit by pitches on three occasions and was walked in his other plate appears and scored all four times.
Andy Civals and Alex Geesey recorded four of Maple Hollow\’s six hits for the game.
On the defensive side of the ball, Trevor Jackson earned the victory on the mound. Through four innings of play, Trevor allowed no runs, no walks, and only 3 hits. The overall team defense was solid as well. In the top of the fifth inning, Trevor struck out two of first three batters he faced but then lost his stuff and walked several batters. Caleb Snyder came in to close the deal and earn the save.
