The Rotary Club of Tyrone, Blair County Communities That Care, Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce and Tyrone Area School District are teaming up to collaborate with area agencies, businesses, organizations and individuals to organize the second annual Family Fun Blast in celebration of “National Mental Health Awareness Month”.
Last year’s event saw over 300 people participating in the day’s activities.
This year’s Family Fun Blast is scheduled for tomorrow, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tyrone Area High School with free prizes, free food, live music and lots of family fun.
From 10 a.m. to noon child safety seat inspections will be held in the parking lot, sponsored by Kelly Wike State Farm Insurance and the Blair County Safe Kids Coalition.
Free food will be available beginning at 11 a.m. compliments of US Foods.
The Hot 100 Live Broadcast will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Entertainment, provided by Kip Woodring will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the Altoona Curve’s Steamer and DelGrosso Park’s Buddy Bear will make an appearance at Family Fun Blast.
Many events will be ongoing throughout the day, including children’s games and activities in the gym.
A Kids’ Clinic will also be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Tyrone Hospital invites children to bring their stuffed animals, dolls or other special friends to have a vital signs check-up.
Check-up includes blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, height, weight and more.
Plus, each child will receive a patient chart containing the vital signs info to take home with them.
Participants in the second annual Family Fun Blast include: Kelly Wike State Farm/Safe Kids of Blair County; Family Services Incorporated; Church of the Good Shepherd; Girl Scouts of Talus Rock Council; Altoona Regional Drug & Alcohol Prevention Services; Blair County Respiratory Disease Society; Tyrone Elementary Early Childhood Center; Family Resource Center of Blair County; Tyrone Hospital; Cub Pack 320; NHS Human Services/Canal Ways Center; Parent Child Home Program/Head Start; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Blair County; Home Nursing Agency; NAMI National Alliance for Mental Illness; Boy Scout Troop 32; Blair County Communities That Care/Blair Countians for Drug Free Communities; Blair Family Solution; Blazing Arrow Hook & Ladder Fire Company; 20th Masonic District PA Freemasons; Tyrone Area Elementary School; Joshua House Juniors; Boy Scouts of America; Grace Baptist Church and Contact Altoona.
Each agency will have information and/or activities for families and children.
The idea behind Family Fun Blast is to help promote healthier relationships between parents, children and community members.
Families will enjoy the opportunity to interact in a safe, supportive environment, learn to make healthier decisions and have a fun and rewarding experience.
