Two local men were arrested in connection with a weekend burglary at Community Pharmacy in Tyrone.
Tyrone Borough Police responded to an alarm at the pharmacy at 3:53 a.m. Friday morning. Upon arrival, officers found the back door of the business open and slightly damaged when pried open, along with a bottle of Oxycodone and a pocket knife just outside the open door.
After searching the pharmacy, officers found a drawer that contained numerous bottles of Oxycontin open. When owner Dan Irvin arrived, it was reported to police that 11 bottles of Oxycodone, 3 bottles of Oxycontin, 3 bottles of Endocet and 1 bottle of Endodan were missing. A cabinet containing money was opened but none was missing.
When police viewed the surveillance video, it recorded that the two individuals entered the pharmacy at 3:49 a.m. and exited at 3:51 a.m. Police were able to identify one of the suspects by viewing the video and identified him as 27-year-old William Hampton Jr. of Tyrone.
Before police could serve an arrest warrant, they learned that Hampton was in intensive care at an area hospital for a drug overdose.
Police then executed a search warrant at Hampton’s Sylvan Circle residence. Officers found 90 pills and information that helped them identify the other suspect as 27-year-old Jerry L. McCahan Jr. of Bellwood.
When police found McCahan, he consented to a search of his vehicle. Prior to the search, he showed police a duffel bag with approximately 500 pills and clothing, that he stated he was keeping for Hampton.
Inside McCahan’s vehicle, police also found a needle, a spoon and more pills.
McCahan confessed to burglarizing Community Pharmacy with Hampton after his arrest.
Tyrone Police reported that the street value of the stolen pills was close to $75,000 and the actual value of the medication was estimated at approximately $2,000.
Hampton and McCahan were both arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller and bail is set for $75,000 each.
Hearings for both are set for Tuesday.
