A fatal accident occurred in W. Providence Township, Bedford County, last night just after 7 p.m.
A vehicle driven by Harold E. Lewis, 60, of RD1 Tyrone was traveling south on SR26 while another vehicle driven by 58-year-old Audrey Debra Cooper of Martinsburg was traveling north on SR26.
Cooper stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of SR26 and SR1007. Cooper then pulled into the path of Lewis’ vehicle which struck her driver’s side, then traveled down an embankment and rolled onto the roof.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner Sam Gordon.
Cooper was taken to a nearby hospital with major injuries
Cooper’s vehicle had a front seat passenger, Nancy Cooper, 80, of Woodbury. She was taken to a nearby hospital with major injuries and later died as a result.
Lewis’ vehicle had three passengers, Darlene Jane Lewis, 58, a 15-year-old and 16-year-old, all of Tyrone. The passengers were all taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Both Cooper’s Ford Escape and Lewis’ GMC Sierra received disabling damage.
