Tyrone Area Elementary students are joining in the fight against cancer by raising money and walking in the elementary gym on Thursday, June 12 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Roberta Woomer, Northern Blair Ambassador, will be the guest speaker at the opening and closing ceremonies.
Tyrone Elementary students are holding a “Mini-Relay,” which is an abbreviated version of the American Cancer Society’s national signature activity, Relay For Life. Students will be collecting donations the first week of June and will walk in the gym for one class period as designated by their teachers.
“It’s a great opportunity for the students to make an impact in the community as well as become knowledgeable about cancer. The students feel good about themselves knowing they are doing something to help others,” said Brenda Cowger, elementary nurse and “Mini-Relay” coordinator.
The “Mini-Relay” will be an all-day event complete with music and activities. All money raised by the Tyrone Area elementary students will be donated to the American Cancer Society. This year’s theme is: “Happy Days – The 60s!”
Northern Blair County Relay For Life will take place on June 20 and 21 in Bellwood and is estimated to raise a considerable amount of money for the American Cancer Society’s mission of saving lives from cancer. The money raised by the elementary students will be donated to Relay For Life in the name of their school.
