Pet owners from across the region are being invited to take part in this year’s “Pet Fair” as hosted by the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.
The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 16 at Legion Park in Hollidaysburg from noon to 3 p.m. A major change this year is the location at the park. The event will be held at pavilion No. 3.
The fair will feature entertainment, information, food and music. Fair organizers said the event will be “fun for the entire family.”
The fair will include a pet show, silly pet trick competition, breed rescue information booths, an “Ask the Vet” area (staffed by Matt Stachmus, DVM), music by Baby Boomers D.J. service, a special appearance by Typhani Russo, Miss Pennsylvania East Coast USA; pet sitter service providers, pet supply retailers, other area humane agencies and shelters, a state dog warden, clowns “Jeszme” and “Sparky,” a special appearance by the Sheetz Hummer (offering rides for the kids), valuable door prizes and a 50/50.
Something new will be offered this year at the food concession. Vocelli Pizza (Family Video Plaza, 6th Ave. in Altoona) will be offering pizza, strombolis, chicken tenders and a variety of soft drinks on site for fairgoers.
“We’re really excited about having Vocelli Pizza at the event,” said CPHS Director of Fundraising/Public Relations, Dave Hopkins. “Owner/operator Tom DeStefano and his crew make great traditional Italian food, and they’ll be serving it on site hot and fresh. And a portion of the proceeds will be donated to help our animals.”
No reservations are needed for the food.
Baked goods and bottled water will be offered for sale as well by CPHS staff.
Fairgoers are encouraged to bring their pets; however, dogs must be on leashes or restrained in a comfortable fashion, cats should be in appropriate carriers. All animals are invited to enter the “Pet Show” competition, which will feature prize ribbons awarded in numerous categories. Entry forms are found in the Pet Fair pamphlets found at local veterinary offices, some area retailers and the CPHS shelter and thrift shop. Registration for the pet show begins at 11:30 a.m.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the homeless animals at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society shelter located at 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd. in Altoona.
For more information, call 942-5402 or 942-2477. As a reminder, the shelter will be closed to the public on the day of the event so employees may attend.
Also, CPHS has an on-going wish list for those individuals who would like to donate an item to the shelter, which can include: kitty litter, puppy and kitten food, leashes and collars, toys and treats for the animals, bleach and laundry detergent, medium-sized gloves for cleaning, old blankets and towels, copy paper, postage stamps, hand sanitizer and paper towels.
