Tyrone golfers took to the links for their first home match of the season, facing conference matches with a young Lewistown team and a seasoned Central Mountain Squad,
Tyrone won handedly against Lewistown, but ended in a tie with the Central Mountain squad.
A scorecard error by freshman golfer Jimmy Ferguson, set his score back one shot, posting a score of 80, but signing for a bogey 5 on hole 14 when he in fact pared the hole. Tyrone was forced by rule to post the score of 81, which had Tyrone settle for a tie, instead of the win,
“That is an very poor way to keep one out of the win column,” Coach Greg Ferguson said. “it is pretty hard to take, when you preach the importance of the little things, and how one shot anywhere can and will make the difference in a match. We discussed this very issue on the practice tee prior to today\’s match. However this is only one factor that can be found to come up with one shot. We had a couple of our guys let their guard down when things weren\’t going the way the kids wanted it to, so today was a good learning experience for all.”
Ryan Ruscio led the way for the Golden Eagles with a stellar front nine, posting a one-under par 35, but ran into a little trouble on the back nine posting a 42 for a final tally of 77.
“Ryan played well,” Coach Ferguson said. “He was patient and kept things together on the back when he needed to. Jimmy Ferguson was second for the Eagles with a score of 81. Jason Tuckovich posted an 83 after a rough start, Jason finished strong on the back nine, posting 40. Matt Brooks and Kyle Updyke both posted 89s, and the sixth position was Eric Loose who struggled today off the tee, posting 102.
Tyrone golfers will be back in action next Wednesday to try to keep their league record in the undefeated category, by hosting Indian Valley and Bellefonte at the Sinking Valley Country Club.
