The Tyrone cross country teams dropped both matches to Philipsburg-Osceola at Philipsburg on Tuesday afternoon. Dustin Elder won the boys race in 18:33, winning over Joe Komisar of P-O who finished in second place by nearly 30 seconds. Tyrone’s Nate Kruis finished third in 19:31 as the Philipsburg-Osceola boys won a close race 27-32.
Bradley McNeal was fifth overall for the Eagles (0-2) in 20:06, but the Mounties took all the places from sixth through 11th, before Derrick Wilson broke up the placements with a 12th place time of 22:41. Evan Lewis (23:29) was 13th and Ben Smerekar (25:03) was 14th.
“Our boys ran good solid races today,” said Tyrone cross country coach Tammy Wills. “Their times showed it. We were hurt because of missing three (Stever, Johnson, and Randy Wilson) of our runners today and that could have made a big difference in what was a close match.”
The Tyrone girls (0-2) were shut out of the top five places in dropping a 47-15 decision. Ashley Ford was the first Lady Eagle across the finish line in sixth place with a time of 24:59. Kayla Patton was seventh in 26:28, and Christina Daugherty rounded out the top 10 with a 10th place time of 26:53. Meghan Miller (32:18) was 13th and Stephine Schemdit (32:54) was 14th for the Lady Eagles.
“The girls all did very well today we finally had a full girls team,” said coach Wills. “I enjoyed watching the newer girls. They ran much better and everyone dropped a good deal off their times and all ran very good races. I am looking forward to seeing how their season progresses.”
Next up for the Tyrone cross country teams is the Altoona Invitational on Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m.
