One of the ways members of the community support Tyrone Hospital is by joining the hospital family as a volunteer. Members of the Tyrone Hospital family gathered to honor Tyrone Hospital’s volunteers at a luncheon held during National Volunteer Week in April.
Volunteers donate time to assist the hospital in a variety of departments.
“We are pleased to have members of the community involved in the hospital and helping us fulfill our healing mission,” said Walter S. Van Dyke, Chief Executive Officer at Tyrone Hospital. “They are a very dedicated group of people and they support Tyrone Hospital in a very special way.”
In 2007, volunteers donated 1,071 hours to support Tyrone Hospital as follows:
• Frances Hunter of Tyrone donated 219 hours in 2007. A volunteer for more than eighteen years, she has donated a grand total of 10,423 hours. Mrs. Hunter currently assists in the materials management department and donated additional time to assist with a special health screening event. She is also an active member of the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary.
• Jack Swiderski of Warriors Mark donated 135 hours in 2007. A volunteer for more than seventeen years, he has donated a grand total of 3,605 hours. Mr. Swiderski currently assists in nutrition services.
• Sally Swiderski of Warriors Mark donated 96 hours in 2007. A volunteer for more than thirteen years, she has donated a grand total of 3,541 hours in the business office.
• Constance Baker of Tipton donated 178 hours in 2007. A volunteer for more than four years, she has donated a grand total of 812 hours. Mrs. Baker assists at the reception desk.
• Anna Mae Campbell of Tyrone donated 145 hours in 2007. A volunteer for more than four years, she has donated a grand total of 665 hours. She assists in the marketing office and with special projects for the Tyrone Hospital Development Council.
• Jayne Grove of Altoona donated 169 hours in 2007 and a grand total of 481 hours since joining the program more than two years ago. She assisted in the short procedure unit and the reception desk.
• Joan Smith of Warriors Mark donated 17 hours in 2007 and a grand total of 42 hours assisting with customer satisfaction surveys.
• Danielle Barto of Tyrone is a teen volunteer who donated 20 hours in 2007 assisting in various nursing units.
• Zachary Stewart of Hollidaysburg is a teen volunteer who donated 99 hours in 2007 and a grand total of 207 hours during the two years he participated in the program as a summer volunteer.
Theresa Yanchetz, Director of Marketing and Volunteer Services at Tyrone Hospital said all of the volunteers have been very generous.
“Many of these individuals also donate many hours to other organizations and causes close to their heart,” added Yanchetz.
