The Tyrone Area junior high football teams traveled to Huntingdon on Thursday evening for games against the Bearcats.
The Little ‘Cats scored in every quarter to turn back the visiting Eagles 30-8.
After the Huntingdon ninth graders took a 12-0 advantage into the halftime intermission, The Golden Eagles came out flying to put their only points of the game on the scoreboard. Jeremy Miller capped the drive with a 10-yard run for the touchdown and Robby Marlett passed to Ian Murray for the two-point conversion to narrow the Huntingdon lead to 12-8.
The Eagles weren’t able to dent the Huntingdon goal line again however, while the Little ‘Cats scored once in the third quarter following the Tyrone score and once again in the fourth quarter.
Kyler Johnson ran the ball seven times for 34 yards and Miller had four carries for 31 yards, and the TD.
Caleb Snyder completed a 46-yard pass play to Johnson for what proved to be the longest gain of the game for the Orange and Black junior high.
“We got beat by a good Huntingdon team,” said Tyrone junior high coach Dan Plummer. “We need work on both sides of the ball. We just can’t seem to get ourselves on the right track. Hopefully we can get turned around as the season continues.”
In the seventh/eighth grade game, Tyrone and Huntingdon battled to a 6-6 draw.
Tyrone will make the long journey to Spring Mills next Thursday to play the Penns Valley junior high, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. for the ninth grade contest and 5 p.m. for the 7th/8th grade game.
