First Assembly of God, 12th Street and Blair Avenue, will be having its annual “Homecoming Sunday” on October 7.
All those ever associated with the church are welcome to attend this special day. Former pastors and members who have moved away were all sent letters of invitation. As always, it will be a great day of reunions and fellowship. The morning service will be followed by an afternoon banquet. Ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, baked beans, macaroni salad, tossed salad, rolls, butter and dessert will all be provided.
Speaker for the day will be Rev. David Blattner. David Blattner pastored First Assembly, Tyrone, from September of 1961 to February of 1966. During that time he was active in the Kiwanis Club, he served on the board for the founding of the Tyrone Public Library, he was a member of the Tyrone ministerium and Master of Ceremonies for “Songs in the Night” heard on WTRN. Rev. Blattner’s wife , Doris, was a music teacher in the Tyrone Public school system.
Rev. Blattner was born in Venezuela, South America, to missionary parents, graduated from Central Bible College, and spent 33 years pastoring in Pennsylvania and 12 years in Ohio. During his years of pastoral ministry, he established three Christian schools and oversaw two others.
He joined the Assemblies of God Financial Solutions in June of 2000 as Vice-President, Northeast Region of the US, and as such is able to help some 2,300 churches in the Assemblies of God with their needs for financing of their church facilities. Having been born in South America, his second language, Spanish, is beneficial in working with the Spanish churches in the Northeast Region of the US.
In addition, he is continuing to fill in the pulpits of Assemblies of God churches which are going through pastoral transition. Rev. Blattner lives in Findlay, Ohio with his wife Doris. They have two children and four grandchildren.
