Although they got off to a bad start, with Indian Valley scoring five first-inning runs before the Tyrone softball team even had a chance to bat, the Lady Eagles played one of their best games of the season, before falling 16-6.
“We hit better than we have,” said Tyrone coach Lois Loncher. “Indian Valley made some errors which enabled us to score.”
Tyrone took advantage of several mistakes by Indian Valley and their own hits to knock their starting pitcher out, for the first time this year, and narrow their deficit to 6-4 after two innings. The Lady Eagles said good-bye to Indian Valley starter Kaitlyn Glick with their four-run second inning, but were able to manage two more runs, both in the bottom of the fourth, over the final four innings off Lady warrior relief pitcher Caitlin Croger, who picked up the win.
Walker led the way for IV with three hits and three RBI, and Sammie Herto, Shannon Lamberson, Kauffman and Parson each added two base hits. Taylor Borgo drove in three runs and Lindzee Ruby, Lamberson and Parson each had two RBI.
Senior shortstop Brooke Garbinsky drove in a pair of runs, and senior catcher Lindsay Christine had two singles to lead the Lady Eagles. Christine and Teanna Kobuck each drove in a run.
Ariane Miller pitched a complete game for Tyrone, striking out a pair and walking five.
