It’s that time of year again. Residents of the Tyrone community will be busy raking leaves and cleaning up yards as the fall season stows upon central Pennsylvania.
The Borough of Tyrone will conduct its 2007 fall leaf collection program beginning on Monday, October 1. Curbside collections will continue every Monday thereafter through December 3.
Borough employees, on the designated dates, will collect yard waste (leaves and grass clippings only) throughout the borough.
All yard waste must be placed in brown paper bags and set out at the curb for collection by 7 a.m. every Monday from October 1 through December 3.
The borough reminds residents that large limbs and branches will not be collected. But, residents wishing to dispose of such yard waste can do so in Antis Township’s Yard Waste Composting Facility that is open year round (weather permitting) to residents of Antis Township and neighboring communities like Tyrone.
The site accepts yard waste, including trimmings from bushes, trees, leaves and grass clippings, all at no charge. All contaminants, such as metals, plastics, rocks, lumber and refuse, should be eliminated from the brush as the site does not accept these.
The compost yard is for residential use only. Use by contractors is strictly prohibited and will be considered illegal dumping.
The Tyrone Borough would also like to remind its residents there is a strict “no burning” ordinance within the borough. The only exceptions to burning in the borough is for food preparation and ceremonial purposes.
