| New print on display The newly released, limited edition aerial print of Tyrone by William Snyder III is now available for purchase. The newly released, limited edition aerial print of Tyrone, “Tyrone – Land of the Noble”, by William Snyder III is now available for purchase.
There are only 500 of the signed and numbered 24 by 36 inch prints available.
Each print comes on high quality, 100 lb. paper, signed by Tyrone Mayor James Kilmartin.
The cost is $75, and the prints are available at the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce office.
Snyder said the idea for the print came about from Mayor Kilmartin, who knew he was an artist, and asked him to do something special for the town of Tyrone.
According to Snyder, the production of the photo seemed to come together perfectly. He works in a frame factory, his boss owns a plane, and his good friend has great photography equipment, so Snyder was able to utilize both the plane and equipment to get just the right aerial shot of the town of Tyrone.
“I thought it was very significant pre-I-99, and pre-development,” Snyder said about the aerial photo shot.
He added the photo provides a beautiful view of the town, and its value will appreciate over time, since the landscape of the area will eventually change with growth and development. It provides a nice “snapshot” in time of how Tyrone appears today for future generations to enjoy in years to come.
This newly released print is also special because the last known aerial photo of Tyrone reproduced for sale to the public was in 1895.
Snyder added that he chose to include “Land of the Noble” to be printed in the corner of each photo because that’s what the word “Tyrone” means in Gaelic. Snyder believes it’s important for the photo to help both residents of Tyrone and out-of-towners alike realize the beauty and “nobility” of the town, and he hopes that it will help residents take added pride in their community.

Snyder, who has a master of fine arts in printmaking, lives in State College. His wife Julie teaches dance in Tyrone at Joshua House.
