The Tyrone junior varsity football team slammed the Lewistown JayVees, with a touchdown barrage, at Lewistown, on Monday evening.
The Golden Eagles started out with two first-quarter scores via the arm of sophomore quarterback Shane Walker, added a third touchdown in the second quarter to take an 18-0 lead at the halftime intermission, then blew the game open with three more third quarter TDs for a 37-0 triumph.
Walker who threw for a totan of more than 270 yards in the ballgame, hit Josh Graham for a six-yard TD toss to begin the scoring, then found Jamar Stansberry, who raced 82 yards for the second tally.
In the second stanza, the only score, was on a four-yard run by Walker.
“We played very well tonight,” said Tyrone junior varsity coach Darren Elvey. “We were finally able to put an entire game together in all phases of the game. I keep telling the guys we were not that far away despite our record.”
In the third quarter, if Lewistown had any thoughts about getting back in the game, The Eagles put that thought quickly and thoroughly out of their heads. First, Jimmy Weston ran five yards for the fourth score of the game, then Zach Gault plunged the final three yards of a march for another touchdown, Finally, Quinn Carter capped the scoring by covering six yards for a touchdown.
Next Monday, the Tyrone junior varsity team will travel up the mountain to play the Philipsburg-Osceola junior varsity. Gametime will be 6 p.m.
