“Why settle for average when together we can be great?” That is the challenge Library Director Jessica Ford Cameron offered to all residents of the Tyrone Snyder Township community in her recent letter. Specific goals for improvement include establishing a space within the library for teenaged patrons, upgrading the public computer lab and other technological equipment, improving the audiovisual collection, and offering more programs and services to patrons. She explains that although the annual concerts are quite successful with raising funds for the mortgage, donations to the library operating fund are needed to help the library provide better service to the community.
Like the owner of the magic lamp, the library has some wishes it would like to have granted. Unlike the magic lamp, the library has no genie; only 6,410 registered patrons of all ages who can contribute their magic by granting some of our wishes: a big screen television (ideal for video games and for showing movies) for the community room, a color printer for the computer lab, a larger showcase, and a new or nearly new copier. We urge members of the community who value the public library to contribute to the current fund drive. If you have not received a letter, stop by the library to make your contribution. Or you can also contribute online via Paypal by visiting www.tyronelibrary.org and clicking on the Donations link on the left side. You may specify that your contribution go toward a specific “wish”.
In our effort to reach all of our patrons, the Library is hosting the following programs:
• For those interested in tracking down their ancestors, The Blair County Historical Society will give a talk on Genealogical Research in the Community Room from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 5.
• For the gardeners among you, the library is holding a plant sale on Saturday, June 7.
• For the armchair travelers Rick Stonebraker will be giving a talk on his trip to Dubai from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 9.
This week, the library begins a new permanent schedule to be compliant with state requirements. The new schedule adds seven hours weekly and provides additional time in the morning and in the evening. We hope these changes make the library more compatible with your busy schedules. Perhaps this new schedule will allow you to combine your errands and save gas. The following is the schedule effective as of June 2:
Sunday: Closed
Monday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (3 additional hours)
Tuesday: 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Wednesday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (2 additional hours)
Thursday: 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (2 additional hours)
Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
