The Frankstown Armory in Altoona was host to “Meet the Soldier” Saturday as hundreds of folks gathered to show their support to the men and women in uniform who are facing deployment in the near future. Along with Bravo Company located at the Altoona Armory of 166 soldiers, Charlie Company, based in Tyrone and Bellefonte, will be heading to Iraq later this month. It was a family lesson as 1st Lt. Matthew Snyder of Altoona explained the operation of the M-4 Rifle (5.56) to his young niece and nephews, Cameron, Collin and Madison Ulery of Duncansville. With the display was the 50 cal. sniper rifle and the M-110 sniper rifle (7.62). Folks had the opportunity to sign cards and write messages to be sent to the soldiers later on as well as sign a large banner. The soldiers also served the public a very tasty lunch they had prepared. (The Daily Herald/Virgie Werner)
