Tyrone Hospital officials have announced that Shabbir Ahmad, M.D., Board Certified Oncologist and Hematologist at Blair Medical Associates will open an oncology clinic at Tyrone Hospital. The clinic will open November 14 and will be located on the first floor of the hospital on the short procedure unit.
As an oncologist Dr. Ahmad is a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancer and the use of medical and chemotherapeutic treatments of cancer. As a hematologist, he is a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases.
The oncology clinic will provide an opportunity for patients who reside in northern Blair County and communities in neighboring counties to have their office appointments with Dr. Ahmad in Tyrone. Chemotherapy will not be provided at the Tyrone location.
Dr. Ahmad said he wanted to open a clinic in Tyrone to make things easier and more comfortable for his patients. “Patients who are undergoing treatment for cancer fatigue easily and some feel ill from their medications and treatments. It will be less taxing for these patients, having a clinic closer to home. I also think my patients will appreciate the kind of personalized attention that people tend to receive in small hospitals like Tyrone.” Patients who see Dr. Ahmad in Tyrone will also have easy access to the hospital’s services. “Patients who undergo cancer treatment require testing on a regular basis and these services will be easy for patients to access at Tyrone Hospital.”
Dr. Ahmad is a member of the Tyrone Hospital medical staff. He has more than fifteen years of experience caring for cancer patients.
He is a graduate of the Nishtar Medical School in Multan, Pakistan. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He completed a fellowship in Oncology and Hematology at Hahnemann University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.
Dr. Ahmad’s professional experience includes affiliations with Susquehanna Hematology/Oncology in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and Mercy Health Services in Altoona. He also had a private practice in Panama, Florida. He was also affiliated with the Cancer Treatment Center in Jamestown, New York and Oncology Management Services in North Tonawanda, New York.
Dr. Ahmad is also currently principle investigator of a clinical trial for a chemotherapy treatment for prostate cancer.
