Help for your grocery budget
Help for your grocery budget is here in Tyrone.
St. Matthew Church has begun hosting an opportunity to stretch your food budget through Angel Food Ministries.
In May, a group of churches in Tyrone began helping every one who struggles to stretch their budget through this outreach. Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States.
Angel Food is “restaurant grade” meat, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products and more, which are acquired through involvement with only the best producers/vendors of high quality name brand foods. Never involved are “seconds” or “day old” products.
Each month a menu is received from Angel Food Ministries, based in Georgia. An order form including the menu will be made available through area churches for those who wish to purchase food that month. Each month brings a different “main menu box”, available at $30. When you order the main box of food, you may also purchase monthly specials at another great price.
Pre-paid orders will be accepted two weeks prior to the distribution date set by Angel Food Ministries, with pick-up of orders at St. Matthew’s Church. Payment may be made by money order, cash, or the Access Card. No personal checks will be accepted. Mail orders are welcome with payment by money order, when you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
St. Matthew Church, the “home-base” for AFM, and all area churches are excited about the opportunity to help the community in this way. The next order day is Friday, June 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Church in the gathering space. The next distribution day is Saturday, June 28 in Harkins Hall at St. Matthew’s.
Order days for 2008: (once a month on Fridays from 3 to 6 p.m.) – June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 7 and December 5.
Distribution days for 2008: (once a month on Saturdays usually beginning at 9 a.m., but actual times will be announced each month) – June 28, July 26, August 23, September 27, October 25, November 22 and December 20.
The group of churches welcomes volunteers from the community to help spread the news of Angel Food Ministries and to provide assistance on distribution day.
