Local Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Girl Scouts covered Tyrone and the outlying areas the weekend before Thanksgiving and collected over a ton of food for the local food bank.
The Food Bank which is headed up by Levonne Angelo and located at the Wesley United Methodist Church distributed the much needed groceries to the needy residents of the Tyrone area.
Angelo was most impressed with the generosity of the community and the hard work of the Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and the Girl Scouts.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to these scouts and their leaders and parents who took two Saturday mornings before the holidays to collect food for the needy,” said Angelo. “Our cupboards were bare until the scouts pulled off this successful drive. This collection will hold the food bank well into the winter months, but come spring we will be scrambling to fill our shelves again.”
Over 140 families were served with nearly 500 bags of groceries. These needy families are most appreciative of the generosity of the donors, as well as the hard work from the local scouting programs.
Monetary contributions to the Food Bank are always needed and much appreciated, and can be mailed to: The Food Bank c/o Wesley United Methodist Church, 1200 Logan Avenue, Tyrone, PA 16686.
