This morning at 7 a.m. the Tyrone Area High and Middle School doors opened as students filed into the school a handful at a time having to first pass through stand alone metal detectors, then hand held metal detectors and have backpacks and other belongings searched. TASD administration has taken these measures to ensure the safety of its students and staff after the recent rumored threats that dismissed the students early for Thanksgiving break. Although the lines of students were long at all three entrances, the students were patient, and the administration, staff and police did a thorough job in their duties. TASD Superintendent Dr. William Miller said last week that the school district is “prepared to see this through, whatever needs done, we will do it to protect our students.” Dr. Miller added this morning that due to a long line at the middle school entrance, 100 or so students were re-routed to the high school entrance. “Everyone was through and into the school by 8:20 a.m., so we only lost 10 to 12 minutes compared to our normal time. We found nothing on any student, so we are very pleased with that.” TASD administration and those directly involved in the metal detector process will hold daily briefings while the metal detectors are being used.
