Tonight is the beginning of Tyrone’s annual Yuletyme Christmas celebration, with the Ninth Annual Yuletyme Christmas Parade scheduled to start things off.
The town’s tree lighting ceremony is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. at the Tyrone Post Office with a live broadcast by WTRN.
The Rotary Club of Tyrone will be judging the parade floats on the post office steps.
Also beginning the night of the parade, there will be a promenade of animated windows in downtown storefronts, sponsored by the Tyrone Regional Arts Council.
The parade is scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m.
Everyone is then invited inside the Tyrone Armory for cookies provided by Women’s Club of Tyrone and Connie and Tony Geraci and hot chocolate provided by Joshua House.
While inside the Armory, everyone is invited to stroll through the decorated trees provided by the Yuletyme Committee and then everyone is encouraged to get ready for Saturday’s craft show. A special thank you goes out to Diane Irwin for chairing the decorating and craft show committee.
This is a reminder to enter the Armory on the side entrance.
Saturday’s craft show is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and last until 3 p.m.
The craft show will boast over 40 vendors including live wreaths and poinsettias, fruit baskets, primitive dolls, candles, attic treasures, muggems, scarves, antiques, jewelry, stained glass, Old Tyme Santas, Christmas apparel, Christmas crafts, beads, painted wood products, furniture, quilts, blankets and much more. Food and drinks will be available as well.
There are several other activities planned for this Saturday as well. First, the Colonel Crowther Foundation is scheduled to present a “Civil War Christmas” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church. This is a living history program.
On Saturday, there will be a cookie sale beginning at 10 a.m. at the Tyrone Snyder Public Library, followed by a children’s story hour from 1 to 2 p.m.
On Saturday, there will also be a Breakfast With Santa event sponsored by Tyrone Colonial Courtyard and the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce at Tyrone Colonial Courtyard beginning at 10 a.m. The cost is $5 for each child, and kids two and under can enter for free. There will be great gift bags for all the children.
On Sunday, December 2 and Wednesday, December 5 the Tyrone History Museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. with the addition of the “Toys of Yesteryear” display sponsored by the Tyrone Area Historical Society.
On Monday, December 3 beginning at 6 p.m., it will be the Tyrone Hospital Development Council’s 7th Annual Tree of Light Ceremony at the Tyrone Hospital. A reception and refreshments are scheduled to follow the ceremony.
On Thursday, December 6 at 7 p.m. the “Civil War Santa” presentation by Kevin Rawlings is scheduled at the Tyrone History Museum.
On December 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary’s annual holiday tea, quilt raffle, craft sale and complimentary refreshments will be held in the hospital lobby.
On December 8, Trinity Episcopal Church has scheduled a high tea to begin at 4 p.m.
On December 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. “Church Tours” are scheduled. Everyone is invited to tour the many beautiful and historic churches of Tyrone and experience the true meaning of Christmas.
