The streets in downtown Tyrone were lined with children and adults as the annual Tyrone Area Christmas Parade snaked its way through town. Many organizations, businesses and churches participated this year by creating floats. Fire companies showed off their trucks, the Golden Eagle marching band along with Tyrone cheerleaders and several area twirling groups were also among those taking part in the festivities.
The parade was also broadcast on WTRN radio station.
The grand finale came when Santa arrived in a horse drawn carriage to the children (and adults) delight.
Afterward, the community was invited to the Tyrone Armory where hot cocoa and cookies were served and children had the chance to visit with Santa.
Also during the parade, the participating groups were judged as they passed the Tyrone Post office. This year, four of Tyrone’s former mayors served as the judges including Pat Stoner, Gene Johnson, Steve Beals and Jim Thomas.
This years winners in the business/commercial category were: DelGrosso’s Amusement Park (first); Tyrone Milling (second) and 4 Paws Towing (third).
Churches/non-profit category winners were: Grace Baptist Church (first); Bald Eagle United Methodist Church (second) and Emmanuel Baptist Church (third).
Children/youth category winners included: St. Matthews School/Knights of Columbus (first); Tyrone FFA (second) and Star Light Twirlers (third).
The overall winner for creativity and originality was St. Matthews School/Knights of Columbus whose float had lighted, moving reindeer and a working train.
Congratulations to all of this year’s participants.
