A new Civil War reenactment group has been organized. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of State now recognizes the Keystone Regiment as a Limited Liability Corporation. “Individuals in Blair and Huntingdon counties who have an interest in Civil War reenacting or living history will want to consider joining this group,” said Bob Hileman, Jr., President of The Colonel Crowther Foundation. “The Colonel Crowther Foundation enthusiastically supports the establishment of this group.” They are a family oriented group whose initial membership comes from Blair and other counties in the in the Commonwealth. As stated on their website, www.keystoneregiment.com, their “goal is to recreate the life and times of these men and women through reenactments, education activities, and historic displays at public events. To teach the public the history of early America and the struggles it endured.” Mike Gherrity, a resident of Birmingham, is the Captain of the organization. This group will reenact and participate in living history events as Company A of the 110th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers. This regiment had companies from Blair, Huntingdon and Bedford counties. Company A was raised and commanded by James Crowther, a resident of Tyrone, who later served as Colonel of the regiment. They will also reenact as the 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery, Battery D. This unit was first established as the Tyrone Artillery. James Crowther held a commission as First Lieutenant of this unit in the Pennsylvania Militia.
