The Tyrone Area Historical Society was founded in 1990.
Since that time, upon admission to the Society a member receives a membership number never to be assigned to anyone else. (A suffix attached to a number indicates a charter membership in the Society.)
Over the years, of course, many members either have passed away or have allowed their membership to lapse for one reason or another.
Recently, a milestone was reached when Society Membership Chair Marge Hoyer issued membership number 500 to Bob and Joan Smith, of Warriors Mark, for their supporting membership.
Society President Nancy A. Smith said, “Reaching 500 members is phenomenal for a small-town historical society and I’m very proud of our staff for making this happen.”
If you’d like to support the Society in its efforts to preserve, interpret and encourage community interest in the unique history of the Tyrone area, membership applications are now being accepted for the 2008-09 membership year.
The membership year runs from May 1 to April 30 of the succeeding year; however, as an incentive to join the Society, anyone applying now will have four months added to their first year, which means they will receive two extra issues of the Society’s popular quarterly newsletter, Tyrone PastTimes, before the normal membership year commences in May.
To print a membership application, go to the Society’s web site at www.TyroneHistory.org and click on “Membership Application Form” in the menu bar, or phone Marge Hoyer at 684-7376 and she will be happy to mail one.
