The Tyrone swim teams will be well represented at the District 6 swim championships at the Penn State Natatorium today and Saturday. Athletes from nine schools are meeting to find out who will qualify for the PIAA state swim meet for first-year head coach Tom Getz and assistant Teresa Beisel. The top two finishers in each event will advance to the state meet.
Eagle senior Ethan Nulton has a No. 2 seed in the 100 meter backstroke and a No. 3 seed teaming up with senior Dustin Elder, freshman Rick Day and sophomore Ethan Lewis in the 200 medley relay.
“I think all our seeds are pretty good,” said Coach Getz. “Probably Ethan Nulton has the best chance with a second seed in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 free. I expect, with the way the kids have been swimming, to see a lot of personal best times this weekend. Having over 50 percent of our swimmers (14 out of 25) makes me feel real good.
“We have a good chance to get some kids on the podium (top 6) and some top 10 finishes, with Chynna Beisel in the 200 and 500 frees, Ian McGregor in the 50 and 100 frees, Allen Hosko in the 200 IM, and 100 breast, and Dustin Elder in the 500 free.”
Tyrone swimmers who qualified for the districts and their events are: Boys- Rick Day-50 and 100 freestyle, Dustin Elder-100 butterfly and 500 freestyle, sophomore Kegan Fink-50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, junior Allen Hosko-100 breaststroke and 200 IM, Ethan Lewis-100 butterfly, senior Ian McGregor-50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Ethan Nulton-200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and sophomore Evan Lewis-50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. The 200 meter freestyle relay team of Elder, McGregor, Fink and Nulton also will swim at districts.
