Tyrone and Bellwood-Antis athletes have been competing Friday and Saturday for a PIAA State Track and Field medal at Shippensburg University. Tyrone junior Ben Ingle was fifth in his heat, running a strategic race and advancing to today’s 1600 finals with his time of 4:29.6. Bellwood-Antis senior Ben Hatch, with a seventh place medal as a sophomore, and third place medal last year, had the best time in the 800, with a 1:58.80 and also advances to today’s 800 final. Above, Hatch (42) leans at the end of his heat to just edge Sam Fauko (2) of Fairview, and Jordan Donaldson (3) of Tussey Mountain. Ingle (4) below, is running with the pack in his heat of the 1600. The Tyrone 400 relay and Bellwood-Antis 1600 relay teams did not advance, although there was a story about the Eagles 400 relay. First leg runner Larry Glace, didn’t hear the “set” command because of the noise and was surprised at the start of the heat. With all his weight on his thumb as the gun went off, to begin the race, Glace dislocated his thumb coming out of the blocks and ran the entire first leg that way. (The Daily Herald/Chip Clarke)
