Since 1984 the Tyrone Community Players (TCP) have been offering quality, innovative live theater to their hometown, Tyrone and the surrounding areas, and 2008 – 9 is no exception.
The TCP is proud to kick off this upcoming season, one entitled “OUR LEAP YEAR“, with a classic comedy, The Octette Bridge Club, on Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12 in St. Matthew’s Parish Hall.
In The Octette Bridge Club eight sisters meet on alternate Friday evenings to play bridge and gossip. The first act takes place in 1934 where you, the audience, will become privy to the intimate details, idiosyncrasies and eccentricities of eight sisters whose ages span 20 years and whose life styles span an even wider chasm.
The second act, 10 years later, takes place during their annual Halloween bridge party where mayhem ensues as the sisters finally learn to accept each other, warts and all.
If you have ever had a sister, a brother, a friend, a family, a pet or a casual acquaintance, you will find great humor, kindness and love in this smartly written play.
The second offering of the season will be TCP’s annual spring musical, HONK!.
HONK! is the story of Ugly, whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by the hungry Cat, Ugly must find his way home and, in turn, he discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny.
Based on the classic fairy tale, The Ugly Duckling, and filled with energetic, rhythmic and poignant music, HONK! is perfect for a family audience…and every audience. In the style of Seussical, HONK! will have the audience dancing in the aisles and leaving the theater feeling good about the world and all its inhabitants.
Winding up this season of three main stage productions will be the contemporary, witty, hilarious musical revue, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. This delightful small cast musical, to be presented in St. Matthews” Parish Hall on Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, 2009, pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portals of romance and those who have dared to ask, “Say, what are you doing Saturday night?”
This simply staged musical begins at the beginning, literally, and glides effortlessly through the maze of courtship, marriage, discourse and redemption. It is a sure fire winner!

It also allows, as it did with OLIVER! In 2008 and THE JUNGLE BOOK in 2007, venues for young people (as many as 50 in each of those productions) to enjoy the productive, cooperative and stimulating world of the arts.
