This year the Tyrone Area Community Picnic committee would like to give out as many raffle items for the Tyrone Community Raffle as possible. For this to happen, local vendors and businesses need to step up and donate one or two prizes for the picnic at DelGrosso’s next Friday, August 1, 2008. The donation can be small or could be the grand prize of them all, but the key concept is to get as many prizes into the raffle as possible so that the event is more satisfying.
The raffle is going to be a little different than most raffles. After a group decision, it was confirmed a Chinese Raffle would take place instead of the random prize drawing. This will allow everyone to buy arm’s length tickets and place them under the prize they want the most. This also takes away the chance of winning and getting a prize that someone doesn’t want. It also improves the chance of winning the prize a person wants as well.
This year, some of the listed items will be held at the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce until the picnic. If any business or vendor wants to donate a prize, please do so by next Wednesday and call Sharon Dannaway at the Tyrone Borough at 684-1330. She is taking care of the prizes and trying to get as many prizes into the drawing as possible.
The drawing will take place at the conclusion of the Tyrone Talent Search at 6 p.m. in the pavilions at the back of the park. Here is a sample of what has been donated so far: Silverscreen donated two movies, two tubs of popcorn and candy; Epworth donated a basket; Patrice’s Boutique donated a watch; East End Pizza donated a $15 gift card; Mac’s Market donated a gift certificate good for a free pizza and two liter; Community Players donated two season passes to their 2009 shows; two 1895 reproduction maps of Tyrone; Tyrone Borough donated a 2009 family swim pass; DJ Days donated a stained glass orange ‘T’ for Tyrone and the Tyrone Area High School donated two general admission season passes to this year’s football games.
There are several more donations to come, but don’t be afraid to donate even something as small as a nice flashlight to a television. It can be any prize and everyone will bid on what is available for the raffle.
For more information on the Chinese Raffle, please contact Dannaway or the Tyrone Chamber at 684-0736.
Also, don’t forget about the chicken barbecue tickets available at The Daily Herald, Tyrone Chamber and the Tyrone Borough.
