United Way of Blair County has teamed up with In2it productions and Operation Our Town to help get local students to spend more time volunteering in their communities.
An assembly was held yesterday at Tyrone Area High School to introduce students to a new project known as The 10,000 Hours Show, or 10K Show.
Bellwood-Antis High School students have also been invited to participate in this event.
The concert is an effort to promote volunteerism among young people in Blair County and the show will be held Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 in the Altoona Area High School auditorium featuring Bayside, a nationally known rock band.
According to United Way of Blair County’s chief professional officer, Tommi Burchfield, students are asked to complete 10 hours of community service in order to attend the special concert.
Local high school and college students will be required to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours with a local nonprofit or community organization and track and register their time. They will then receive a free ticket to the Bayside concert, presented by Operation Our Town.
“This show is a great hybrid of doing what we do best while benefiting our community,” said Scott Stuttard, president/COO of In2it productions. “In my mind, this is one of the most rewarding projects we have worked on recently, throwing a rock show to thank our youth for their overwhelming spirit of volunteerism.”
