Gary L. “Tump” Batcheler, 73, of 513 26th St., Tyrone, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at his residence.
He was born July 2, 1934 in Altoona, a son of the late Clarence E. and Flo (Mogle) Batcheler. On May 2, 1975 in Richmond, Virginia he married Margaret A. White.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, Gary Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland and Michael and wife Juanita of Somerset, a daughter Judy Batcheler of Baltimore, Maryland, three grandsons, Jimmy Gehret, Jacob O’Rourke, Jesse Yingling and three step-children who were raised in the home, Tracy O’Rourke, and husband Robert of Tyrone, Frank White of Pinecroft, and Heather Yingling and husband Mark of Tyrone. He was preceded in death by a brother Bud and a sister Beverly.
Mr. Batcheler retired in 1998 from Chicago Rivet and Machine Company, Tyrone as a mechanic following 43 years service. He was previously employed at his father’s business, Batcheler’s Service Station. In addition he did lawn mower repair, worked in home construction and also was employed at a car manufacturing plant in New York.
He was a member of the Allegheny Hunting Camp and the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Tyrone.
Tump was known as a dependable and reliable friend who was helpful to anybody who needed his assistance no matter the problem. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Norman Huff officiating. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home today from 5 to 9 p.m.
