Slippery conditions

Early morning freezing rain caused area roads to become very slippery for travel, and a winter weather advisory ended around noon. The bad weather isn’t expected to continue as there is no precipitation in the forecast for tonight or tomorrow. (The Daily Herald/Christina Pryor)

The Blotter

Dented mailboxes
Over the night of December 26, 2007, unknown actor(s) dented mailboxes owned by Luther Sprankle of Tyrone and Sue Elaine Zimmerman, also of Tyrone. The incidents occurred along Hoover’s Lane in Snyder Township. State police estimated the total damage being approximately $40.

Harassment
State Police in Huntingdon reported an incident of harassment at Grier School, along SR 453 in Tyrone. Between the dates of December 15, 2007 and January 18, 2008, a juvenile male from Silver Springs, MD repeatedly phoned and texted the juvenile female victim from Frankfort, IL, after being informed not to do so.

Theft
On January 31, state police reported Michael Scott Lingenfelter, 28, Altoona; Robert Louis Sprankle, 29, Altoona; and Donald Leroy Coble II, 25, Altoona, stole brake pads and brake drums from J. Line Trucking in Antis Township, then sold the items at Caracciolo’s salvage yard. Charges were filed at District Magistrate Office 24-3-01. All three men were charged with Dealings in Proceeds of Unlawful Activities, Theft by Unlawful Taking, and Receiving Stolen Property.

Theft II
Also on January 31, state police reported Michael Scott Lingenfelter, 28, Altoona; Robert Louis Sprankle, 29, Altoona; and Donald Leroy Coble II, 25, Altoona, stole a vehicle transmission from Tepsic Garage in Snyder Township, then arranged to sell the item at Caracciolo’s salvage yard. Charges were filed at District Magistrate Office 24-3-01. All three men were charged with Dealings in Proceeds of Unlawful Activities, Theft by Unlawful Taking, and Receiving Stolen Property.

Lost control and hit tree
State police reported on February 9, Valerie N. Bacher, 19, Ramey was traveling west on SR 865 in Antis Township when she lost control of her vehicle and traveled sideways into the north shoulder. The left side of Bacher’s vehicle impacted with a large tree and then came to rest. No injuries were reported. Bacher was wearing her seat belt.

DUI
Nicholas Barndt, 311 Fowler Hollow Road, Port Matilda was charged with DUI and several other traffic offenses according to state police on February 9. Barndt was traveling southbound on SR 220 in Taylor Township and lost control of the vehicle, striking a snow bank. He continued south and again traveled off the road and struck a gate. Charges were filed at the office of Magistrate Allen Sinclair of Philipsburg.

Stole truck and gun
On February 11, Harlyn Collier, RD4, Tyrone, reported to state police that someone known to him stole his 1996 Ford F-150 pick-up truck out of his driveway and a 22 revolver out of his dresser drawer. This investigation is continuing.

Ella Mae McNeal

Due to the weather, the viewing and funeral service dates for Ella Mae McNeal have been changed.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Barry Neal officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Charles J. Turiano

Charles J. Turiano, 61, of Huntingdon County, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008.
He was the son of Peggy (Burd) and James A. Turiano, who preceded him in death.
There will be no funeral services.
