Downtown Tyrone - Vision Statement

The Borough of Tyrone, a proud and friendly community along Amtrak’s main-line, adjacent to Interstate-99 and nestled along the bank of the Little Juniata River and Bald Eagle Creek, is located in dynamic and growing central Pennsylvania.

The economy of the region is increasingly invigorated by the educational institutions and research facilities affiliated with Penn State University and related private businesses.

The people who make up the workforce that operates, supports and utilizes this system of higher education recognize the Borough of Tyrone as a valuable element of this regional economy.

The Borough of Tyrone is a community “where quality of life comes first” with safe, affordable, enjoyable small town living at a comfortable pace. Good schools, great access and historic housing enhance this quality of life.

Within this community, Downtown Tyrone endures as the heart of the Borough.

Visitors and tourists find Downtown Tyrone both quaint and inviting, with a growing mix of specialty retail shops, family-oriented dining and varied lodging opportunities.

Recreation and heritage tourists embrace Downtown Tyrone as a home-away-from-home. During this time, they journey to regional hunting, fishing, and hiking venues while they learn about and explore the nearby historic assets.

Downtown Tyrone serves as the business and civic center of the Borough for its diverse residential base of professionals, seniors, young couples, and established families.

With an attractive streetscape, rehabilitated storefronts and a renewed riverfront, a strong and prosperous central business district provides for the convenience retail, business and personal services, and governmental/institutional/spiritual needs of the community’s residents on a daily basis.

The downtown’s desirability as both a residential address and business location is strengthened by the community’s commitment to insure access to the best available technology linking the commercial core to the rest of the global village.

This downtown, this Borough and this community are able to grow and prosper within this environment, where a true “sense of place” is nurtured by the town’s greatest asset – the cooperative, involved, friendly, and caring people of Tyrone.
