In May, St. Matthew Church began hosting Angel Food Ministries, with the help of several other area churches.
Based in Georgia, Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States.
Many people struggle each month to stretch their grocery budget, and area churches hope this program can provide some relief for area residents.
Angel Food is “restaurant grade” meat, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products and more, which are acquired through involvement with only the best producers/vendors of high quality name brand foods. It never includes “seconds” or “day old” products.
Each month, order forms including the menu will be made available through area churches for those who wish to purchase food that month.
A different menu is produced each month, at a cost of $30.
Participants who order the main menu may also purchase monthly specials at a great price.
Orders must be pre-paid by the specified date and pick-up will be held at St. Matthew Church.
Payments accepted include money order, cash, or the Access Card.
Personal checks will not be accepted.
July’s menu includes: 40 oz. Marie Callender’s family crock pot dinner (meat included); 1.5 lb. boneless pork filet; 5 lb. breaded chicken chunks; 1.5 lb. meaty beef ribs; 28 oz. meatloaf and gravy; 1 lb. beef fajitas; 1 lb. fully cooked meatballs; 1 lb. all meat hot dogs; 1 lb. broccoli; 1 lb. peas and carrots; 28 oz. pasta sauce; 1 lb. pasta; 32 oz. Borden 2% reduced fat shelf stable milk; 32 oz. Hawaiian Punch; 12 ct. corn tortillas; 7 oz. blueberry muffin mix; dozen eggs and a dessert item.
One or more specials are available to those who purchased the main menu items.
July specials include: the 7 lb. assorted meat grill box for $20; the 4.5 lb. steak and chicken combo box for $20; 10 lb. breaded chicken breast tenders for $18 and a fresh fruit and veggie box for $16.
The assorted meat grill box includes 1.5 lb. New York strip steaks (2 x 12 oz.), 2.5 lb. boneless netted Boston butt roast, 2 lb. meaty beef ribs and 1 lb. mild Italian sausage.
The steak and chicken combo consists of 1.5 lb. Kansas City strips (2 x 12 oz.), 1.5 lb. bone-in ribeyes (2 x 12 oz.) and 1.5 lb. bacon-wrapped chicken filet (4 x 6 oz.).
Finally, the fresh fruit and veggie box is 6 ears corn, 2 lb. carrots, 2 lb. yellow onions, 1 cello-wrapped lettuce, 1 pineapple, 4 California oranges, 1 seedless watermelon and 6 Russet potatoes.
When picking up and order, individuals must bring a large box or laundry basket to carry items.
Angel Food Ministries reserves the right to substitute any of the above items due to availability, cost and quality.
Interested individuals can place monthly orders at St. Matthew Church from 3 to 6 p.m. on July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 7 and December 5.
Distribution dates at Harkins Hall at St. Matthew’s will be July 26, August 23, September 27, October 25, November 22 and December 20.
Actual pick-up times will be announced each month.
Volunteers are always needed for distributions days. Interested individuals are always welcome to help spread the news of Angel Food Ministries.
