The next season, “Our Leap Year”, of the Tyrone Community Players is filled with laughter, love, music and creativity. There is something for the entire family, individually and as a family unit!
The Tyrone Community Players will kick off its season in the autumn with the hilarious tale of eight sisters and their evolution as a family over a ten year period. “The Octette Bridge Club” delves, with humor and pathos, into the relationships between sisters as siblings and as women. The action of the play takes place in the living room of Ann’s home where she hosts her seven sisters for their bridge club. The ten-year span in the play will encompass you with their escalating problems of aging, marriage, children and sibling rivalry, even as they enter their later years.
“The Octette Bridge Club” offers eight challenging and varied roles for women between the ages of 35 and 50. There is also one smaller role for a performer of either gender. The show is contained within a single set at several times of the year and in consecutive decades.
The second offering of the season, to be performed in the spring of 2009, will be the creative and exciting family musical, “Honk!”. Based on the story The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen, “Honk!” is “a poultry tale, of folks down on the farm,“ and their introduction and adjustment to Ugly, a hatchling who laments, “I’m different, I’m just so different from the rest.”
The sweet story, gentle music and familiar characters offer a unique acting challenge for adults and young thespians alike. You will become immediately attached to Ugly’s parents, Ida and Drake Duck, the villain cat who thinks Ugly looks like a tasty treat, Grace, Dot and Lowbutt, the chickens and a bevy of geese, swans, frogs and froglets, fish and turkeys. But don’t be mislead, this is a musical with as much to offer adults as it has to offer younger audiences.
The final main stage production for this season will be the contemporary take on courtship and marriage, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”. To be performed in early summer, this small cast musical begins with the divine idea of courtship and travels through the entirety of a life between two people.
A cast of three women and three men sing their way through the pitfalls and ecstasy that turns two people into a couple, each actor performing a different character in each stage of this evolution.
“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”, enjoyed a robust success on Broadway and has only recently become available for amateur theater productions.
