Shoe Fly Shoe, Kiwanis Club of Tyrone and Penn State have won the Northern Blair Recreation Center Elementary Basketball league championships.
Shoe Fly Shoe, with T.J. Worthing scoring 10 points, Carter Johnson seven points and Tristan Zeiders two points downed Ferguson Pest Control 19-11, to claim the First/Second Grade League. Jacob Meredith scored all of Ferguson Pest Control’s 11 points.
Ferguson Pest Control finished the regular season undefeated, but had edged Shoe Fly Shoe by a single point (20-19) in their only meeting.
Nathan Davis with a championship-finals best 12 points and Finnley Christine with eight points showed the way for Third/Fourth Grade League champion Kiwanis Club of Tyrone, and Madison Noll added two points in Kiwanis’ 22-14 triumph over DelGrosso Foods. The two squads waged a season-long battle for the top spot with each knocking off the other once in the regular season. Jacob Burch scored six points for DelGrosso Foods, Abbey Crider added four points and Jeffrey McNelis scored four points.
In the Fifth/Sixth Grade Three-on-Three League semifinals, Penn State found itself in the dubious position of having to win two straight games to earn the championship and was up to the task. Penn State breezed into the championship game with a 16-9 win over Duke, behind eight points by Alyssa Davis and four each by Nathan Davis and Alex Bartlett. Adam Osborne scored four points, Emily Hanwell and Tyler Shultz had two each and Ian Schmoke one point for Duke.
In the finals, Penn State turned the tale with a 17-6 victory over Syracuse, to claim the crown. Nathan Davis pumped in nine points, Alyssa Davis added four points, and Alex Bartlett and Ellen Crook scored two points each. For Syracuse, Kelly Leamer scored four points and Emily Nagle added two points
