Two area artists, Eric Feather and Perry Winkler, have each donated a framed print to the Women’s Club of Tyrone in support of their fundraising effort to benefit the Tyrone Hospital through a renovation project that will develop a separate triage and registration center to ensure patient privacy.
This year’s dinner dance and auction will be held on Saturday, April 5 at 6 p.m. at the U.S. Hotel on South Juniata Street in Hollidaysburg. Live music will be featured during the dinner hour followed by dancing. Funds will be raised via live and silent auctions held throughout the evening.
Eric Feather, a resident of King, PA, is a freelance artist and an art instructor at Tyrone Area High School. He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education. Feather says entering the field of art education turned out to be a great decision as he loves teaching and it enhances his skills as an artist. He has exhibited and sold artworks and murals throughout central Pennsylvania and participated in numerous juried shows in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland.
Feather’s contribution to the auction is a sizable matted and framed print of the renovated Bedford Springs Hotel entitled “New Beginnings: Bedford Springs – 2007”. A native of Bedford, Feather has always admired the Bedford Springs Hotel, and he has used it as the subject of artworks various times during his career.
Perry Winkler, born and raised in the DuBois area, began his career in 1976 after graduating from the graphic arts department at the Jefferson County Vo-tech school in Reynoldsville, PA. He resided in the Asheville, North Carolina area, working and studying with private instructors until 1990 when he returned to the DuBois area. Since his return, he has remained active in the local arts community by teaching private art classes as well as teaching workshops for the DuBois Area School District.
Winkler was the original founder of the Winkler Gallery of Fine Art. Located in downtown DuBois, the gallery operates on a co-op format now representing 15 regional artists. He continues to donate much of his time as the director of the gallery today.
Winkler’s work has been used for several fundraisers, most recently with the release and sale of limited edition prints of the “Star Barn” in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Those prints donate 50 percent of the proceeds from their sale to Preservation Pennsylvania to preserve historic structures throughout Pennsylvania.
Winkler’s contribution to the auction is a matted and framed still-life print featuring a bowl of cherries the color of which are echoed in the background items, and the frame.
His work can be viewed locally at Burley’s Restaurant, Tyrone.
