Shirl A. Dillon Jr., 82, of Vail died Monday, March 31, 2008 surrounded by family at Olivia Village, Vail.
He was born April 29, 1925 in Juniata a son of Shirl A. Sr. and Maude E. (Barrett) Dillon. On May 31, 1947 in Cumberland, Maryland he married Shirley A. Estright.
Surviving are his wife, 2 sons Shirl A. III and wife Catherine of RD3, Tyrone, Ronald A. and friend Dan Wilson of Weehawken, New Jersey, a granddaughter Jeanna Dillon and friend Jen Bamford of Harleysville, a step-granddaughter Donna James of Kenhorst, 2 step-great-grandchildren Sarah and Dillon James, 4 brothers Joseph E. and Jack both of Tyrone, Rudy and Marvin both of Rochester, New York and 2 sisters, Ramona Cupp of Warriors Mark and Ruth McConahy of Tyrone. He was preceded in death by a sister Loma Weaver.
Mr. Dillon retired in 1985 as supervisor of East Halls Dormitories, Penn State following 28 years service. He was previously employed as janitor at Tyrone Area High School and also worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Tyrone, Tyrone VFW, Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Bald Eagle Grange and the Jaffa Shrine. In addition he was a 51-year member of the Tyrone Masonic Lodge where he was a 5 time Past Master and was a 32nd degree Mason.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII serving as a Senior Chief in the Eastern Pacific Theatre.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Feller Memorial Home with Dr. Rev. Susan L. Halverstadt officiating. Interment with veteran honors will follow at Baughman Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Masonic services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
