The Tyrone Junior Varsity Baseball Team traveled Wednesday afternoon to face the Central Scarlet Dragons in a game played at Sunbrook Manor Field in Duncansville.
In the top of the first inning the Golden Eagles jumped out to an early two-run lead capitalizing on several errors by the Scarlet Dragon players along with a single from Jeremy Miller and a long sacrifice fly from Jordan Taylor.
In the bottom half of the inning, Central tied it back up on a double and several Tyrone errors.
As the scoring goes, the Golden Eagles would not plate another run the rest of the game, while the Scarlet Dragons scored two more in the second, three in the third, and two in the fifth inning to earn the 9-2 victory.
Hamilton, Krieder, and Schon had multiple hits for Central, while Korry Cowher, Jordan Faretta, and Jeremy Miller were the only players from Tyrone to record a hit for the entire game.
Central pitchers Lafferty and Reed combined to only allow three hits from Tyrone batters while recording 11 strike outs. Lafferty earned the victory, while Jeremy Miller took the loss for Tyrone.
“With only three hits we just could not produce much offense for most of the game,” said Tyrone coach Mark Jackson. “I thought both teams had decent pitching, but Central hitters were more aggressive at the plate and that was the difference in the contest. On a positive note, Robbie Marlette had an excellent game in center field running down what would have been three or four additional extra base hits that he turned into putouts.”
The Golden Eagle JV Squad will not be in action again until Monday, April 7, at home against Bellefonte at 4 P.M.
