On Saturday Oct. 4, the Tyrone BassMasters Club took to the waters for their last regular season tournament. The event was held on Raystown Lake. The weather was poor, but the fish were more cooperative.
Chuck Mattern of Bellwood, took top honors with a five-fish limit tipping the scales at 7.40-pounds. Mattern also won the Lunker Award with a 2.01-pound largemouth bass.
Big Dan Garber of Grazierville, continued his hot streak as he captured second place with a five-fish limit weighing on at 5.80-pounds.
Third place was secured by Randy Rawlings of Mill Creek with a five-fish limit tipping the scales at 4.78 pounds. Dale Frye of Tyrone was in fourth place with three bass weighing 3.43 pounds.
The Tyrone BassMasters will fish their Mini-Classic on Oct. 11-12 at Sayers Lake and Raystown Lake, respectively, to climax the 2008 season.
The final BassMasters standings, with the top six qualifying for the state team tournament for 2009 are: First-Randy Rawlings, Mill Creek, 215 points, 2nd- Chuck Mattern of Bellwood (201), third- Rob Johnson of Harrisburg (173), fourth-Dan Garber, Grazierville (171), fifth- Metz Weko, Hungary Hollow (167), sixth- Bob Fink., Tyrone (153), seventh- Dale Frye, Tyrone (151), eighth- Tom Sanker, Altoona (136), ninth-Bill Keough, PA Furnace (135), Ed Henderson, Warriors Mark (134) 11th-Jim Kaspick, Tyrone (133), 12th- Norm Nagl, Altoona (126), 13th-Rick Bradford, Bald eagle (111), 14th-John Dearing, Tyrone (91) and 15th-Jay Knight, Boalsburg (0).
