Where else can you get four exquisitely acted and creatively produced plays for the price of one? Only in Tyrone on the 11th and 12th of October.
The Tyrone Community Players are very excited to present a cast of five talented performers as they work in different combinations to present an evening of “Shorts”, four one act plays which will transport the audience through the gambit of human emotion.
Your opening “Short” titled “Belinda’s Blind Date”, staring Alicia Rodriguez and Kyle Yoder, explores the complexities of dating in a contemporary world, with all the humor and unease that accompanies the whole concept. This comedy, under the direction of TCP newcomer, Jim McDonald, raises many questions about honesty and exaggeration when meeting and, hopefully, connecting with another person.
Your second “Short” is “The Actress and the IRS”, a ribald comedy about the lengths to which people will go to justify their tax deductions to the IRS, even the most unlikely deductions. Sarah Fink and Don Lindsey, both most recently seen in the TCP production “Oliver”, will use this satirical comedy to highlight the cognitive differences in people’s interpretation of our complicated tax system.
Alicia Rodriguez and Kyle Yoder re-enter the performance arena as a brother and sister in the touching drama, “Asleep on the Wind”. This award winning script relays the story of two teenage siblings as they meet in their secret place in the woods to say good-bye as the brother prepares to leave for Vietnam.
Closing the evening will be TCP veterans Kathy Fink and Don Lindsey in the delightful, yet soulful, production of “A Little Something for the Ducks”. Two elderly persons meet, by happenstance, on a park bench…each contemplating different paths for their lives. How the ducks in this park become the vehicle for their unlikely and sweet friendship is touching and funny.
“I am delighted with the quality of performances the audience will experience in each of these plays.” stated director McDonald. “Each actor has taken the different characters they have been given and made them into distinct, unique personas.”
“Shorts” will be presented in the Parish Hall of St. Matthew’s Church on Saturday, October 11 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 12 at 2 p.m. Ticket costs are $10 for adults and $8 for students…four distinct and delightful shows for the price of one!
