Anyone who travels Route 220 between Bald Eagle and Port Matilda knows Reese’s Market. Now there is another business located in the area and owner, Danette Leeper, is hoping everyone will stop in and check things out.
D’s Stop-N-Go food stand is now open for business Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Leeper said she opened the food stand when Morris Reese asked her to sell food on Saturdays at Reese’s Sale Barn.
From there, Leeper decided to give it a go all week and June 9 she opened her new business.
Leeper was formerly employed as a manager at Romano’s Restaurant in Tyrone.
She said her mother owned restaurants and this is something she has been doing all her life, so it was just natural that she branch out and try things on her own.
The menu includes a variety of items including sandwiches, finger foods, sides, soups, drinks and desserts.
Sandwiches featured include hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dog, hot sausage, sloppy Joe, steak sandwich, BLT, grilled cheese, grilled ham and cheese, tuna melt, tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad and a Texas dog. Prices range from $1 to $2.75.
The menu also offers macaroni salad, potato salad, French fries, mozzarella sticks, breaded mushrooms, breaded cauliflower, onion rings, jalapeno poppers, bred sticks with cheese and wing dings.
Soups, sold by the cup for $1.50 or by the bowl for $2 include chicken noodle, potato, beef noodle, ham and bean, broccoli, French onion and chili.
Available drinks are coffee, hot tea, Pepsi products, iced tea, lemonade, milk, chocolate milk, orange juice and water.
And, of course, the menu wouldn’t be complete without dessert. One dessert featured is Leeper’s famous chocolate cake with peanut butter icing.
Leeper said all of the food is homemade, nothing is pre-cooked. She even makes her own noodles for the soup.
Currently, Leeper is working on a breakfast menu. She would like to invite everyone to stop by and try things out. She added that she is open to suggestions and would love to hear what everyone wants.
“Right now I’m just trying to get a feel for things,” said Leeper. She explained she is developing a breakfast menu and said the hours may change in the future depending on how things go.
Right now, there is a small seating area for dining outside, including a picnic table and patio table with an umbrella for shade.
While there’s no delivery, individuals may call ahead to place an order at 207-9593.
Leeper wanted to thank everyone who has helped her get D’s Stop-N-Go up and running, including her husband, Pat. She said she also received a lot of help from Rick and Linda Watters and their son, Brian.
